A Flicker of Hope: Eva’s Story

It was a bitterly cold day in January when Eva walked through the doors of Turning Point. Her
heart was heavy, her spirit worn thin. Life had unraveled quickly — she had just moved back in
with her parents, a young son in tow, hoping to piece her life back together. She had no job, her
relationships were strained, and going back to school felt like a last-ditch effort to find direction.
Then came the news that left her breathless: she was pregnant again. Unexpectedly. Unprepared.
The questions came crashing in like a tidal wave:
How can I raise another child when I’m barely standing? How will I tell my family? Who do I
even turn to?
She was scared, overwhelmed, and utterly defeated.
But in her darkest hour, Eva reached out to someone who had once walked the same road — a
friend who had faced an unplanned pregnancy of her own. That friend spoke gently, but with
hope. She shared how Turning Point had been the place where her own story began to change.
And in that moment, a tiny glimmer of possibility sparked in Eva’s heart: Maybe… just maybe…
there’s still a way forward.
The waiting room was quiet, but Eva’s mind was anything but. Each fear echoed louder than the
last. The nurse finally called her back. The test confirmed what she already suspected — she was
indeed pregnant. The weight of it all pressed down again. She tearfully confided in the nurse that
her ex-boyfriend had already scheduled an abortion. It felt like a decision made for her. Like she
had no choice.
But the nurse offered her something she hadn’t felt in a long time — options. She invited Eva to
see her baby through an ultrasound, and Eva agreed.
Then, there it was.
A tiny heartbeat.
A flicker of life.
A flicker of hope.
For the first time since hearing the news, Eva didn’t feel so alone. The nurse reminded her gently
that no matter what anyone else had planned, this was her decision. She didn’t have to go
through with something she wasn’t ready for. She was even offered another ultrasound
appointment — scheduled for the same day as the abortion appointment.
Eva walked out with tears still in her eyes, still unsure — but something inside her had shifted.
February came. The appointment at Turning Point arrived… and passed. No Eva.
The nurse’s heart sank. Had abortion claimed another precious life? A quiet prayer was
whispered — for Eva, and for the tiny heart once seen beating on the screen. The day wore on.
And then — a phone call.
A soft voice on the other end:
"I missed my appointment this morning… but can I still come in? I didn’t go to the abortion. I
couldn’t do it."
Relief. Joy. Celebration.
“Yes, Eva — come in! We’re so glad you called.”
She came back, not once, but twice more, each time watching her baby grow — and with every
visit, her love deepened. She began to open up about the unexpected support she had received,
from both the center and her loved ones. The fear was still there, but now it had a companion:
hope.
Later that year, Eva gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She held him close, heart full of gratitude
— for her strength, for her community, and for a choice she made with her whole heart.
She once walked into Turning Point feeling like her life was over.
She walked out knowing…
It was only just beginning.
