A Heartbeat of Hope

Carolyn came to us with her fiancé for a pregnancy test after taking some home tests that were positive. She came from an abusive childhood and was in foster care for many years; she continued to struggle with life and was taking opiates. Her situation led her to be abortion-vulnerable but she wasn’t sure how she could find her way out. Her fiancé was supportive and asked that we help them with resources regardless of  what the pregnancy decision would be.

After seeing the baby’s heartbeat on the ultrasound the desire to do whatever was needed to continue the pregnancy in a healthy and safe way was paramount in her life. The father of the baby was even more encouraged to walk this road with her.

We worked with her for weeks regarding obtaining prenatal care, substance abuse treatment, and repeated ultrasound offers to encourage that bonding with the baby. 

She began doing our prenatal and parenting classes, and then started to take our Bible Study Class. That has continued, and she and her fiancé began going to church! 

She has had the baby, a little girl named Marie, and she continues to be involved in our educational programs along with Bible Study, and is substance free! We get to see her and the baby often because of the involvement with classes.
